Google already supports HTML5 ad units that are made using the built-in templates in AdWords Ad Gallery. AdWords converts Flash files into similar HTML5 ads that can run in those places which do not support Flash. But for those who want to use rich media ads to offer a more customized experience, can use this integration to build HTML5 ads for their Google Display Network campaigns.

Google Web Designer is a free HTML5 authoring tool for building animated HTML5 ads. You can create ads in Google Web Designer, publish them as a .html file and upload it as a new image creative in the display campaign. This will let you run custom and engaging ad units on smartphones, tablets and desktops.

Google says more people are using mobile devices to stay connected. 25% of global pageviews occur on smartphones and tablets. Not only this, more people are using the web in HTML5 compatible environment than Flash. In order to reach all these people, Google recommends to build rich media ads in HTML5.
